ABOUT ME
Hot on the heels of the spectacular Taka Geisha, we’re super excited to feature not one, but two more incredible coffees from this world-class producer - this beautifully expressive Milenio alongside an equally captivating Starmaya. Two remarkable hybrid varieties, each with its own distinctive character, showcasing the extraordinary potential of modern coffee genetics and the producer’s unwavering commitment to quality.

Corazón de Jesús is run by the Alvarado Fonseca family in Chirripó, within Costa Rica’s Brunca region. In 2015, Jhon Alvarado took the enormous risk of moving into specialty coffee and building the family’s own micro mill. Named Heart of Jesus, the project was an expression of faith as they stepped into the unknown. A decade later, the family took first place in both the washed and honey and natural categories at Costa Rica’s 2025 Cup of Excellence.

About the Milenio Varietal

Milenio is a remarkable first-generation (F1) hybrid coffee variety, developed in Central America through a carefully selected cross between Rume Sudan, a prized African landrace celebrated for its exceptional cup quality, and T5296, a Sarchimor selection valued for its resilience and resistance to coffee leaf rust. The result is a variety that brings together two seemingly contrasting worlds: the extraordinary flavour potential of rare African genetics and the strength and productivity needed for modern coffee cultivation.

Developed through a collaborative breeding programme involving French and Central American research institutions, Milenio represents an exciting chapter in the evolution of specialty coffee. Unlike traditional varieties selected over generations, F1 hybrids are deliberately bred to combine the most desirable characteristics of their parents. Milenio has proven particularly promising at higher elevations, where careful cultivation and favourable growing conditions can reveal its remarkable sweetness, aromatic complexity and refined acidity. It's a fascinating example of how agricultural innovation and exceptional cup quality can go hand in hand.

In the cup, this Milenio is beautifully expressive. Layers of jammy apricot and ripe cherry are lifted by fragrant bergamot, unfolding into a sweetness of sugar cane and almond nougat. A rich, syrupy body carries these flavours effortlessly, with dark chocolate bringing depth and balance. The finish is long, sparkling and wonderfully candy-like, leaving a lingering impression of sweetness and vibrant fruit.

Milenio is a variety that challenges the idea that agricultural resilience and extraordinary flavour must come at the expense of one another. With its fascinating genetic heritage and exceptional potential in the cup, it's a glimpse into the future of specialty coffee. This particular lot is a beautiful expression of that promise, offering an experience that's as captivating as it is delicious. A coffee we're incredibly excited to share!

¡Gracias, Antonio y Jhon!
