La Guadelupe Farm, Ocotepeque, Honduras
Bourbon, Pacas, Catuai, Maragogype
Selin Edgardo Recinos
This microlot has been produced by Mr. Selin Edgardo Recinos on his farm, La Guadalupe, situated in the Ocotepeque region of Honduras. Selin Edgardo is a fourth generation coffee farmer, and is passionate about supporting his local community, especially the many workers that contribute to his farm's success, which he describes as a close-knit brotherhood.
The land on which he cultivates his crop is a mixture of sand and volcanic soil, and covers 23 hectares, sitting between 1450 and 1600 meters above sea level. The high altitude at which his lots are grown significantly contributes to the consistently high-quality cups that the coffee from La Guadelupe Farm produces, as does the selection of varietals he uses, including Bourbon, Pacas, Catuai, and Maragogype.
Selin Edgardo's plants are shade-grown, beneath a canopy of species such as Orange, Banana, Jocote, Pines, Cedars, and Sweetgum. The diversity supplied by these neighbouring plants allow the local ecosystem to thrive, encouraging the native bird and animal population, which consequently benefits the coffee through reduced pest-damage and erosion, along with better fertilisation.
Selin Edgardo is a member of the COCAFELOL co-operative, an organisation that is dedicated to supporting coffee farmers in the Ocotepeque region, assisting with production, marketing, financing, and export of their produce.
Cheers Selin Edgardo, we love it!
