ABOUT ME
Buziraguhindwa is a communal washing station located in the Muruta commune, north of Burundi on the border of Rwanda. Buziraguhindwa originally produced mainly fully washed coffee, but under the auspices of chief Ramadhan Salum, in recent years has experimented with natural and honey processes producing outstanding results. All coffees are grown organically by default, as the farmers are not investing in fertilisers.
Salum places great value in supporting the local communities through the creation of jobs, local infrastructure, agricultural practices and extensive donations including land for children's schools. This, together with the premiums and second payments for the coffees, is to encourage the farmers to increase the quality in their farms and pick only the best cherries during harvest. We pay over three times the Fair Trade price (and 5 times the Commodity) for this coffee – for not only a unique and delicious cup, but to do our bit to support the local community of Muruta.
