Midnight Express combines a knockout natural from Costa Rica with a juicy washed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Awarded Bronze in the 2017 & 2018 Golden Bean Coffee Roasters Competition (the world's largest of its kind) in the Pour Over Category, Midnight Express is exceptional using filter brewing methods.
Component: 75% Costa Rica Tirra Estate Natural Bourbon
Tirra Estate is located in the San Marcos district in the Tarrazú municipality, sitting at elevations of 1500-1600 MASL. Owned by Coopetarrazu, the small farm was purchased for specialty microlot production and to conduct research on sustainability in coffee. They have implemented a ‘Coffee, Culture, Quality of Life’ Sustainability plan to track their environmental impact, implement better practices, and create a culture of environmental respect among members and children. We were blown away with this natural on the cupping table (and cup after cup since) and have chosen it as the main component for this year’s Midnight Express.
What it brings: Complex and generous with notes of salted caramel, mulled wine, cherry ripe and almond.
Component: 25% Ethiopia GR1 Washed Yirgacheffe Indigenous Heirloom
The birthplace of coffee, Yirgacheffe is a place where heirloom varietals, high altitudes and ideal growing conditions come to play. This particular lot demonstrates all the quality characters Yirgacheffe is renown for – upfront fruit flavour, delicate floral complexity and thanks to a fully washed processing method, a clean and sweet citrus acidity.
What it brings: juicy peaches and apricots with floral notes and a traditional lemonade acidity to brighten the cup.
